Come Learn about the Life of  St. John de Brebeuf

Thursday, November 21, Parish Center, Room 22

6:00 – 9:00 pm   (6:00 – 7:00 pm  Potluck Dinner)

Director of Adult Faith Formation, Michael Lewandowski, will present on the life of St. John de Brebeuf. The saint was born in the Normandy region of France in 1593.  As a young man, he heard the call to be a member of the Jesuits.  Serious health problems confined de Brebeuf to his bed, and it seemed impossible that he would become a missionary. However, by the grace of God, he eventually was sent to the area around Quebec called “New France.”  His duty would be to convert the Indian tribes to the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ.

De Brebeuf ministered fearlessly among the natives.  He worked tirelessly to learn their language and their culture.  Eventually, some of the hearts of the natives softened and they became Catholic, abandoning their pagan ways. While working among the Hurons, de Brebeuf was captured by their enemy, the Iroquois.  He was tortured and eventually martyred, but never wavered in his faith as he courageously faced his death.
