Prayer Blanket Ministry

The Prayer Blanket Ministry is a ministry in which lap blankets are distributed to those who are seriously ill or who are undergoing surgery. They are knit, crocheted, quilted, knotted fleece, or simply sewn* by volunteers. The blankets are made by members of the group, blessed by a priest, prayed over by a Rosary group in the Adoration Chapel, tagged, wrapped, and distributed (either by mail or in person). Even during the making of the blanket, prayers are said for the future recipient, and, once the blanket has been delivered, the prayer group continues to hold the receiver in it petitions.

The purpose of the Prayer Blanket Ministry is to bring relief and peace to the sick and suffering by letting the recipients know that they are not alone and that they are cared for by a faith community. As the recipients use the blankets, they know they are covered in prayer and that God is with them as we pray for their healing.

The Prayer Blanket Ministry is always in need of more members who can either sew, knit, quilt, or crochet. The blankets we make are intended to be lap blankets approximately 3½ by 4½ feet.

*Coordinating flannel fabric sets are available for the sewn blankets.

You can make the blankets on your own schedule, and we have no regular business meetings. Our prayer group members pray over the blankets on Tuesdays during the 3:00pm Adoration hour.
